SOLD! Sutherlin FFA Ag Sales Results

picOn Friday, November 22nd Sutherlin FFA members made the long trip over to Oakland to compete in the District Ag Sales Career Development Event. In Ag Sales members get the chance to show off their salesman skills by selling their products to judges in the competion. Also, members get to compete in other areas involved with sales such as ad layout, customer relations, prospecting, and order taking.

Overall Sutherlin had a strong appearance bringing home a red banner for advanced and a blue banner for beginning. "I would say District Ag Sales was a success", said Jessica Freeman, a senior competitor. "Every member who went used their strengths and participated to the best of their abilities." Kelsey Maillet also a senior chimed in "I'm really proud of the way both advanced and beginning teams competed, we represented Sutherlin FFA very well."

District Tractor Driving

TractorMonday November 4th Sutherlin FFA members took off to the fairgrounds to compete in the annual District Tractor Driving Career Development Event. Members got to show their tractor driving skills by manuvering around cones and even parking trailers. At the end of the day the advanced team and the beginning team were able to bring home the blue banners! Here are the results for the high indivduals:

Beginning: Tristan Needham (2nd), Cameron Lemke (3rd), Tanner Strong (4th), Isaiah Lepre (4th),Patrick Gerstner (7th), Seth Stamy (8th), and Hanna Willis (9th)

Advanced: Thomas Smalley (2nd), Brad Cooley (3rd), and Tristan Needham (5th)



Sutherlin Steals the Show at District Rituals

RitualsThis Wednesday November 6th, your officer team along with the junior officers headed down to Myrtle Point to compete in the Rituals Career Development Event. In the Rituals CDE members get the opportunity to show off how their chapter opens and closes a meeting. It was easy to say that all the hard work of memorizing and practicing paid off when Sutherlin pulled away with a blue banner for the advanced and beginning teams.

"I'm really proud of the way our team presented," said Emma Matteo the Vice President for the beginning team. Emma placed 1st for beginning Vice President, along with Sam Tilley (1st place Sentinel), Geruen Erandio (3rd place Treasurer), Colby Hobgood (2nd place Secretary), and Lee Wesenberg (3rd place President).

The advanced team was also excited with their first place victory as well. " We were definitely a great example of how to open and close a meeting," said Kylee Carson, advanced Vice President. These were the results for the advanced competition: Joe Matteo (3rd place Sentinel), Heather Brown (3rd place Reporter), Bryson Price (1st place Treasurer), Miranda Mendenhall (1st place Secretary), Kylee Carson (1st place Vice President), Jessica Freeman (1st place President). Congrats to both teams! Way to represent Sutherlin FFA!


Sutherlin Snatches Second in State Soils

IMG 5942-webOn October 15th eight Sutherlin FFA Members had the opportunity to show their skills in the State Soils Career Developement Event in Dayton, Oregon. The day before the contest the students went all around Corvallis and Oregon State University to the many different soil pits in order to be as best as possible for the competition. The Sutherlin participants did an amazing job representing our chapter with both the A and B team getting second place.

All the students that competed had outstanding scores overall and Sutherlin had two top ten places, Bryson Price (4th high individual) and Joe Matteo (10th). Sutherlin was also well represented by Heather Brown, Tessa Franklin, Ambrose Brower, Ariel Taylor, Taylor Brooke, and Christina Moody.

District Soils

IMG 5903-webOn October 8th Sutherlin FFA had 36 members compete in the district soils CDE. Students had to get down and dirty in the very different soil pits in the hills of Glide. The students who competed have spent countless hours practicing and gaining knowledge about soil properties in order to bring home the blue banner. Students had to do many different things in this CDE including texturing the soil, identifying color and characteristics, and filling out their score cards with tons of other information.

Sutherlin FFA members did a fantastic job representing our organization by not only getting first place in both beginning and advanced, but having very good scores overall.
